Preview 5 crashes, how can decipher the crash report?

I’m trying to open up my project in the new Preview 5 but I’m met with a crash report. After having experimented a bit I think I’ve isolated the problem to my pawn blueprint. Is there a way to the crash report or otherwise debug to see what exactly is causing this?

UE4 sometimes can predict crash and throws an error in log and then in controled way crashes, which is in this case ( i write this after i wrote things on bottom :p), but sicne you asked how to decypher this and it might be helpful for others i will explain that ;] So first check logs (in Saved/Logs of your project directory) and then try to decypher the stack

What you see is function stack, when you call function in C++ it adds that function to the stack, that function runs other function which is added to a stack and so on and so on, when function is finish it removed from top of the stack and lower function in stack is continued which runs another function. So on bottom of the stack you got code that started UE4, which seems to be Visual Studio:

As you may notice it shows you exact code file and line where it happened (if binery file or there PDB file that got symbols pointing to them from machine code), and you cna find that point in engine source code:

And there you can see that unhanded exception probably happened as code stoped on exception managment code, exception is a error (but on only) catching feature, unhandled means there no code that can react to specific error that cause exception, which means something unexpected by code happened and to avoid possible damages from unstabe function it stops the code (crash). As crashed happened in controlled why UE4 left message about exception :

Unknown exception - code 00000001 (first/second chance not available) Assertion failed: Template [File:D:\BuildFarm\buildmachine_++depot+UE4-Releases+4.7\Engine\Source\Runtime\CoreUObject\Private\UObject\LinkerLoad.cpp]

Bold text shows the exact error and it point to some code file, so we search for last mention of it in stack

I am however having trouble finding the necessary information from any crash logs. Is it correct to assume that the log will contain the line "ULinker::CreatedExport failed to construct object " and then the class and name of the object?
I checked the log file in the project folder but it didn’t contain anything I could use. What have I missed?

Log files are created each time the edtior is ran. If the project is reopened after the crash you will have to search through the different files for the correct one so the easiest way to get information about the crash you’ll want to check the most recent log file immediately after the crash occurs.
