Widget Animation greyed out?

HI all, This is done on Engine 4.6.1.

So here I was working on a widget blueprint and wanted to make an animation for a FlyIn and FlyOut of a menu item for my HUD. I went to add new animation and…

I’m stuck. I can’t add any keys, and the only keys I can make is at point 0. Is there a trick I’m missing? Do I need to call an event in Graph?

[EDIT] I managed to get it work somehow, but this still confuses me.

For some reason I could access the Animation keys after I deleted my ‘MenuFlyIn’ and ‘MenuFlyOut’.

I try creating another of the same name and it refused saying that ‘An animation of this already exist’.

I created a new one called GameMenuFlyIn and I was able to access the keyframes.

Why do I have to delete first and create a new one to access the animation keyframe?

Also, when I accidentally messed up my animation and had to delete it, I could not reassign my animation anymore. I had to delete the animation and make a new one now called ‘MenuFlyingIn’ and ‘MenuFlyingOut’. Crossed my finger to not accidentally move the linebar to the wrong timeframe.

So far I had to create 3 different variation of animation name just to get this going.

Hi seantriana,

I’m unaware of the exact reason for this, but restarting the editor will definitely allow the editing of keyframes; and it should also free up the Animation names for being used again.

I had a similar issue. I kept trying to edit the animation I had created. The timeline was grayed out and I could not do anything to a keyframe I had created. After removing the animation and creating a new one it suddenly worked. Very strange.

you have to bring up the animations tab in the editor its not attached to the timeline in widget editor and sometimes it might be closed by default meaning the timeline is greyed out because no animation is selected there for you can not add ques to it. You simply need to show animations tab and select the animation or create a new one. its incredibly confusing and not at all obvious. Its just greyed out and there is no indication as to why. So without experience in having the tab closed which its not actually suppose to be closed it just gets closed sometimes when migrating or changing projects or maybe you closed it by accident not knowing it was a vital window which doesnt auto reopen aka you should be able to hit the que and it should generate a new animation if one is not selected and open the animations tab… aka it currently works backwards which is fine but the animations window is not fixed so if your unaware that it needs to be shown and an object selected in there for any of its functions which are present in the editor at all times. You will simply see greyed out objects which you might have even been using the day before.
