Launcher crashes while downloading

Please Help!!

Yesterday the launcher started crashing while downloading update.

Crashes everytime at about 60%.

CrashReporter dialog pops up with: MachineId:FCA364494EE8C7DE5C6AC6AB581F3BBF UserName:bobco000

No minidump found for this crash.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling.
Downloaded new installer. Rebooted.

There is plenty of space on all drives.

Not sure what to do - thanks in advance for any help

BTW - I am running Windows 8.1.
Have geforce gtx 980 with latest drivers 347.25

Hi OptimisticMonkey,

Just to clarify, are you downloading an update for the Launcher or for an Engine version?

If it is an update for the engine, try the troubleshooting steps under the ‘Launcher is Unable to Download Content’ section in the link below.

Let me know if this works or not.

Thanks for you quick reply!

This is the update for the launcher - it won’t run because it fails when downloading the update to itselditself.

When you first open the Launcher and the download starts, you should be able to see the version number. Could you let us know what it is?

Also, post your most recent Log files. They should be located here:

C:\Users[USERNAME]\AppData\Local\EpicGamesLauncher\Saved\Logs

I’ve seen this issue only once since the update and the tech here who experienced it was also on Windows 8.1. Rebooting his PC fixed the issue for him but you mentioned that you have already tried that.

C:\Users[USERNAME]\AppData\Local\EpicGamesLauncher\Saved\Logs is empty

Crash in runnable thread FileConstructorThread

the above was in C:\Users[USERNAME]\AppData\Local\EpicGamesLauncher\Saved\Logs\EpicGamesLauncher-backup-2015.02.06-09.56.40.log

Take a look in both of these locations and see if any log files are present.

C:\Users[USERNAME]\AppData\Local\EpicGamesLauncher\Saved\Logs

C:\Program Files\Unreal Engine\Launcher\Engine\Programs\NoRedist\UnrealEngineLauncher\Config

Thanks TJ - I uplaoded zip of both dump and log files…

Any other ideas on what to try?

I was hoping to use UE quite a bit this weekend?link text

Hi OptimisticMonkey,

Your screenshot shows that explorer.exe is what’s crashing and your logs indicate that it can’t seem to install where ever it’s being pointed to. Can you try these possible solutions and see if they work for you?

  1. Install and open the launcher as an Administrator

  2. Check your User Account Control Settings and lower the threshold

  3. Try installing in the default location if possible if you have not tried that already.

I have other possible solutions but I want to see if these easier solutions fix you first.

-Max B.

Hi Max - I tried all 3 and none worked.

  1. Ran launcher with Run As Administrator ( could’nt figure out how to install msi as administrator)
  2. Lowere UAC to lowest setting (NONE)
  3. Installed msi to default directory on c:\Program Files\Epic Games\Launcher

Thanks again for helping … I was really hoping to get it running this weekend and dont want to have to reinstall windows

So for whatever reason the launcher magically started working this morning???

Closing thread - so strange.

Alright Guys, Okay first off apologies, for opening up a closed thread but its on the same subject of Launcher Crashes, so i figured id post here, since its relevant

Anyhow, after installing the client, “Epic Games Launcher” there seems to be a bug with the client initializing the download of the source and whilst its downloading it crashes at literally 1%…This is on Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit SP1.

now ive got a screen shot of both Windows Crash Window and Epics Crash Windows, the event signature is BEX64

Now i do have a suggested fix, see image below.

I would like to kindly note that i am currently building a temporary fix for this bug, #BEX64 i would just like to know has anyone else come across this error? what i’m doing its just a temporary fix but, if it works, then job done right?
