Material Editor crashing UE?

I’ve been having some strange issues with UE crashing when editing my material. Specifically inside the material editor. I thought it had to do with the Roughness and Metallic inputs, (since it started happening when creating my metal/chrome material). But now it just seems to happen randomly whenever it wants, no matter what i’m doing…

It’s gotten so bad to where I open a material, I bairly get the chance to move around in the material editor before it shutsdown instantaneously …

Edit 3-25-14: UE continues to crash repeatedly. Now It’s so messed up to when I try to swap textures in the Texture Sample Node it shuts down.

Anyone else having this issue? Anyway it can be fixed in future updates?

If anyone is curious. I’m running:
AMD Phenom II 6-Core CPU @ 3.2GhZ,
EVGA GTX 560Ti,
8-GB RAM,
Windows7

Hello,

Would it be possible to attach a log file from a crash you encounter which may help us identify the issue. Your log is located in your [Project Name]/Saved/Logs folder.

Thanks,

-W

Hey Wes,

Here is a link to the folder with 2 log files for 2 different projects…
https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B6XLQwFJyFyCQW9wYXd6UGNTSHc&usp=sharing

Thank you for posting your log files. I’ve taken a look at them and they appear to be similar to what another user is experiencing here:

Since I am unable to reproduce the issue on my end, I’ve entered a bug in our database for tracking and attached both log files for our developers to review in hopes they can isolate the problem. I’ll leave this post as unresolved as well until we can determine the cause of the issue.

Thanks,

-W

Thank you Wes for the support. Hopefully this can be resolved in future updates.

I keep hitting a similar crash as well. I crash basically everytime I try to create/modify a simple shader. Generally I am adding in a constant or checking a box, and then all of a sudden it just closes.

I’ve submitted 3-4 crash reports or so now. Hopefully this can be resolved soon, either with a driver update or something else.

We’re investigating what might be causing this. It appears from some of the logs that something else on your system is trying to open shader compile worker files which is preventing the shader compile worker from being able to do its thing. If you have a virus scanner active, try excluding the UE4 game intermediate folder. This would look something like ShooterGame/Intermediate/Shaders.

I’m not sure I can actually do that. I looked around and couldn’t find a setting to ignore a specific directory. I use F-Secure. I completely shut down F-Secure and the material editor and UE4 seemed to work just fine with no crashes. Will I have to do this every time I want to work in UE4?

After disabling my virus software, UE4 still seems to crash instantaneously after starting the editor again and creating a new material (starting back where I left off)… (well doing anything really; in relation to the material editor).

Here are the latest log files to my recent crashes… Dropbox - Error

For whatever it’s worth, i’m not having this issue anymore. A few weeks ago I upgraded my graphics card. Recently I was running a EVGA GTX 560ti, I now have a XFX R9 270X (AMD card)… It may be the lack of GPU muscle, but who knows exactly. (Not sure if the guys at Epic continued to work on the problem, if there are others with this bug)…But yeah…UE4 runs like a champ now!

(Now if I can get this ■■■■ tree shader I built in UDK transferred into UE4 that would be great)…But I digress…
