Unable to reset Material Instance values for blended materials

Hi, I was foolin around with blended materials. I blended 2 materials together just for fun, created a material instance, then changed some values for various parameters. All worked well until I tried to reset those values using the little yellow arrow buttons next to each parameter.

Apparently, I’m unable to reset parameter values back to their defaults for blended materials. Would be handy to be able to do so!

I’m using UE v4.7 Preview (Not Unreal Tournament)

Thanks!

Hey Neil -

I tried to duplicate your experience and was not able to do so. Can you be specific as to how you are creating your blended Material and what type of Layer Blend are you using? Are you creating your two materials directly in the blended material or are you creating material functions that pass through the information into the blended material? What basic type of material is it (Opaque, Translucent, etc.)? Any additional information you can get me to help me narrow down this issue for you.

Thank You

Eric Ketchum

EDIT: Of course right as I ask for more information, I did get it to reproduce, but I want to confirm we have the same reproduction. Are you using Material Functions passed into a MaterialLayer Blend node and if so does the parameter used to control the Blend reset correctly? For example, if you are using a standard blend with a Scalar Parameter controlling the Alpha does that particular variable reset correctly?

Hey -

I have reported this issue as UE-9926 and will keep you informed as we work toward a solution.

Thank You

Sorry for taking so long to respond. It has been so long that I can’t remember the exact method I was using at the time.

I created a quick video demonstrating the problem. Apparently, it has to do with parameters inside of material functions.

Thanks,

Hi Neil -

It looks like issue has been fixed in the 4.8.0 Launcher Release but since the Unreal Tournament Engine is still an engine version behind the fix has not been implemented in that version yet.

Thank You
