Search help

  • Simple searches use one or more words. Separate the words with spaces (cat dog) to search cat,dog or both. Separate the words with plus signs (cat +dog) to search for items that may contain cat but must contain dog.
  • You can further refine your search on the search results page, where you can search by keywords, author, topic. These can be combined with each other. Examples
    • cat dog --matches anything with cat,dog or both
    • cat +dog --searches for cat +dog where dog is a mandatory term
    • cat -dog -- searches for cat excluding any result containing dog
    • [cats] —will restrict your search to results with topic named "cats"
    • [cats] [dogs] —will restrict your search to results with both topics, "cats", and "dogs"

Crash when placing mesh

Having an issue, I have several doors that are animated, I originally tried to import them as skeletal meshes but any time I tried to place them Unreal would crash. Then I converted them to regular edit poly in 3ds Max and re-exported them to try them as static meshes and again it still crashes when I try to place it in the level. I can open the static mesh just fine, I had also reset Xform before exporting to Unreal, so I can't imagine what could be causing it.

Hey darthviper,

Does this happen with any other animated meshes you import? If you reimport the asset, does the crash still occur? Could you let us take a look at the asset that's causing the crash? Thanks!

Here's the static mesh file: https://www.dropbox.com/s/ted3nwkmc05n9vw/787_doors.FBX I haven't tried any other skeletal meshes, this one I also tried as a static mesh and had the same problem. It's very weird because it comes up in the static mesh editor. And I've tried reimporting more than once.

Just did a new test--I have a glass material I am applying on the windows and that's what's causing it to crash, although I have it being used on several other meshes. Here's the material asset link text

Hi darthviper,

I just imported your static mesh but did not get a crash, can you list your specific repro steps so I can better assist you with this?

Thank you!

Adam

Update---so the bug that causes the crash is to apply the glass material to the mesh and then try and place the mesh in the scene causes a crash no matter what. If the mesh is already in the scene and I try to apply the glass material it crashes as well. If I place the object in the scene without the glass material and then save and restart Unreal and then try to apply the glass material then it works without crashing.

I am not getting a crash following those steps. Would you mind attaching your crash log so we can take a closer look?

Thanks!

Yes, I found a way around it--place the mesh in the map, save and restart UE4 and then I am able to apply the material without it crashing.
