Crash when placing mesh

Having an issue, I have several doors that are animated, I originally tried to import them as skeletal meshes but any time I tried to place them Unreal would crash. Then I converted them to regular edit poly in 3ds Max and re-exported them to try them as static meshes and again it still crashes when I try to place it in level. I can open static mesh just fine, I had also reset Xform before exporting to Unreal, so I can’t imagine what could be causing it.

Hey ,

Does this happen with any other animated meshes you import? If you reimport asset, does crash still occur? Could you let us take a look at asset that’s causing crash? Thanks!

I haven’t tried any other skeletal meshes, this one I also tried as a static mesh and had same problem. It’s very weird because it comes up in static mesh editor. And I’ve tried reimporting more than once.

Hi ,

I just imported your static mesh but did not get a crash, can you list your specific repro steps so I can better assist you with this?

Thank you!

Just did a new test–I have a glass material I am applying on windows and that’s what’s causing it to crash, although I have it being used on several other meshes. Here’s material asset link text

Update—so bug that causes crash is to apply glass material to mesh and then try and place mesh in scene causes a crash no matter what. If mesh is already in scene and I try to apply glass material it crashes as well. If I place object in scene without glass material and then save and restart Unreal and then try to apply glass material then it works without crashing.

I am not getting a crash following those steps. Would you mind attaching your crash log so we can take a closer look?

Thanks!

Yeah it’s weird, I found a way around it though

Hi ,

I just wanted to check in and confirm that you are no longer experiencing this issue. Am I correct in this? If not we are more than happy to assist you further!

Thank you and have a great day,

Yes, I found a way around it–place mesh in map, save and restart UE4 and then I am able to apply material without it crashing.
