UE4 context menu services not installed with the engine on OS X

When I right-click an .uproject file and go the the available services, there is no entry from UE listed. There is no Generate Project Files, or Change Engine Version etc.

I’m using the latest launcher, 4.6.1 and 4.7 P8. I just completely removed the engine, including any caches, logs and other resources, then reinstalled the binary version. Still no services. Any ideas what could be going on?

Hi Bajee,

I am not able to reproduce this issue on any Mac here. Have you tried creating a new project and seeing if that .uproject file is associated with UE4EditorServices? You can also right click on the uproject and select Open With > Other> then navigate to UE4EditorServices.

Let me know if either of those help.

Thanks

All my projects seem to be associated with UE4EditorServices. This particular project was started on Windows. I just checked it out on my Mac to try something. Even if I create a new project, there is no Service listed. Strange.

Hi Bajee,

You posted two images: One where UE4Editor Services are present (top) and one where they are not (bottom.) Also you wrote: This particular project was started on Windows… If the project was started on Windows, it will not be recognized on Windows. Is that the issue you are experiencing? Are you able to open projects generated from Mac?

Let me know, thanks

Hi ,
Sorry for the confusion. By “Services” I don’t mean the UE4EditorServices app (that just starts the project in the editor, right?). What I mean is what OSX calls Services (Dienste in German on the screenshots I posted). I read that’s where the Generate Project Files and Switch Engine Version options are supposed to be on OSX. Yet, I have no UE4 related options in my Services context menu.

If the project was started on Windows, it will not be recognized on Windows.
I’m not sure what you mean? On Windows I have no issues. Right-clicking a .uproject file in Windows Explorer will list the Generate Visual Studio Solution and Switch Engine Version options.

Are you able to open projects generated from Mac?
I’m able to open any projects. The problem is the missing context menu options. They’re not there for any project (created on windows or mac). Right now I have to Add Code to Project on OSX to make the Editor generate the Xcode project file. Or I could probably find the actual script and run it manually. To change the Engine Version I have to edit the .uproject file in TextEdit.

Actually, UE4EditorServices is responsible for these right-click menu items. It’s also used to open project in the editor, but that’s it’s secondary function.

Please open System Preferences, go to Shortcuts tab in Keyboard settings and select services, then check if maybe the UE4 services are on the list, but disabled. They should be in Development group.

If they’re not there, try going to your ~/Library/Services folder and launch UE4EditorServices app from there. If you don’t have it there, something went wrong during installation. If launching it still doesn’t add these menu options, let me know.

At this moment I don’t have any more ideas, but I’m sure we’ll eventually figure this out.

The Services are not listed in the System Preferences. Running UE4EditorServices from ~/Library/Services just starts the app and it keeps running (in the Dock) with no UI. The Services are still not listed anywhere. The only thing I can think of right now is that I’m running OS X in German, but I don’t think that should be an issue. Anyway, it’s not that important, just somewhat inconvenient.

UE4EditorServices shouldn’t stay in Dock. Perhaps something’s broken with the copy you have there  Try killing it with Activity Monitor, then delete it from ~/Library/Services and then run the Epic Games Launcher again. It should install a new copy of UE4EditorServices.app in there.

Letting the Launcher redownload UE4EditorServices fixed it. Thanks a lot!

You’re welcome. Glad I could help.

I’ve run into the same issue, how to redownload by launcher?

i got it, i download the UE from epic games client and the issue fixed
