Scale problem - static mesh relative to character scale in Persona and in Level Editor

This problem is really messing up my work flow. Please help.

I have a character model (Lily) and a set of accessories made for the character model (rings, crowns, bracelets, etc).

All of the meshes fit precisely in Maya (e.g., the crown fits snugly on Lily’s head).

All of the meshes, including the character, are being imported via FBX with a 0.5 scale factor.

When the meshes are placed in level, all of the dimensions are correct (see left panel of attached picture). This can best be seen by the matching of the head circumference to the crown circumference.

However, when Persona is opened and the skeletal mesh is socketed, the scale of the accessories and scale of the character model no longer match (see right panel of attached picture showing exactly same model and exactly the same static mesh as shown in the level editor window on the right).

ALL of the scale settings in UE4 are set to 1.0 (the character mesh, the items, the socket, etc).

This same effect is seen in game when the character picks up any of these items and then it attaches it to the character socket.

What is going on here?
