Substance Plugin not working in-game

So I downloaded the Allegorithmic Gynoid showcase and set up a project for it using Unreal 4.6.1. I downloaded the 4.6 version of the Substance plug in and placed the Plugins folder in the Gynoid Project. Whenever I play the game in editor or launch a separate window, the sliders for changing the substance in the scene don’t actually cause anything to happen. Opening the Substance Instance from the content browser will change the mesh if I open it, but in-game there seems to be no effect.

This is on a fresh install of Windows 8.1 with Unreal 4.6.1, Substance Designer/painter, and Visual Studio 2013 all installed as well. Any Ideas on why the plug in wont work?

I also get a crash if I try to launch the project on my PC with the attached error.

Are you using the GitHub branch of the editor or the Launchers binary version?

I’m also a little confused because you mention that you can open a project and adjust values, even though they don’t appear to do anything, but then say that you get a crash every time you try to start the project. Can you elaborate on what’s going on here with this?

I’m using the launcher version.

I can open the project itself just fine and if I open up the substance instances from the content browser, changing values like grunge and other parameters will affect the mesh if I have it open in the mesh viewer. However, if I play in editor or a separate window the sliders in the level do not affect the substances at all.

As for the crash, if I use the launch button in the editor to launch the game to my PC is when I get the crash.

Hi Jessie,

I can see the sliders don’t change the material, however this is not a bug that is directly related to UE4 that I can see as it appears not to work in any version that it has been released for (4.4 - 4.6).

Can you post the crash logs and the dmp files for your crash here along with the crash reporter information copied to a txt file? I’m also using Windows 8.1 but I cannot get the crash to happen on my end. Even my machine at home using Win7 and this project has not crashed previously.

This may be an issue that needs to be reported to Allegorithmic with their plugin via their site if the logs have any indication.

Would be nice to know how this problem ended. I’m having the very same issue (the slider not working in-game part, no the crashing thing), and I can’t find out how to solve this…

I opened this question and posted my screenshots here, in case of someone looking for something similar to this Dynamic material .sbsar slider not working in-game - Asset Creation - Unreal Engine Forums

I honestly forgot about this, as I could never get it to work and ended up abandoning looking into it further. I just built a new PC and got the engine installed. I’ll try it again on this build and see I still get this same issue.
