When can support Windows Phone platform?

Hi~I am a Windows Phone user,so I am very interesting unreal 4 will support Windows Phone?

We are about, I would say, 50% of the way there. There’s no hard time line, but there has been more interest than expected, so we are going to prioritize it higher than before!

I would expect something that you can play with in 2-3 months, but I can’t promise that as of yet.

Josh

any news in regards to this Josh? Thanks

Howdy gametrooperswp,

Just wanted to give you an update on this. We have currently been keeping focus on the two major mobile platforms to make them as good as we can before we would be able to tackle a third.

Thanks and have a great day!

With Microsoft announcing Project Islandwood (ObjC compiler that creates a WP10 binary), is there any chance this will be looked at again?

Howdy Charcoal_,

At this this point in mobile development, our focus remains on Android and iOS as we are working to get both of these platforms as stable as possible. That is not saying that we are not going to target this platform in the future for Mobile Development, but at this point in time, we are keeping focus on these two platforms.

I will be sure to let you know if that changes in the future.

Thanks and have a great day!

That’s not going to help us, we only use ObjC around the iOS API bits. Those bits don’t exist in Windows, so there’s no need for ObjC compiler for Windows (in UE4, that is)…

We are going to focus on the Universal Binary stuff for Windows, which is going to be the only realistic avenue to WinPhone, but I have no time table for that.

How is the progress coming on with this? I know the focus is on iOS and Android, but there is sufficient demand for Windows Phone, and the more support it gets from developers the better, rather than just leaving it sweltering in the sand.

Having UE4 support would be beneficial not only to Epic, but to developers themselves, as the Store is mainly empty, and is a potential breeding ground for high quality games, making it easier for them to get noticed, whereas on iOS and Android, you’re fighting literally thousands of cloned apps just to try and get some basic recognition.

I have the Lumia 535, which is a cheaply priced entry point Windows Phone, but the power and graphics it can handle is quite amazing.

Please… make support for windows phone 8.1 too…
So much people still using it.

Unfortunately, the data doesn’t suggest it makes sense to support.

Below 1% marketshare is really low. Note that when an OS version drops below ~4%, we drop support for it to reduce testing burden.

And that’s just an version of an OS that we at one point supported, and remove just for testing/support.

When an entire platform drops below 1%, it just can’t make sense to work on. I personally never expected it to drop like it has…
