How to stop UE4 from perma freezing my pc?

I currently have all requirements to run UE4 but for some reason 15min in like clock work the program freezes my entire pc forcing me to do a hard restart. I have nothing else running when having UE4 running yet I still freeze up.
It does not matter what I am doing either I can open up a new project turn all the settings to their lowest and let it sit about 15 min later the entire system is frozen.

I am at a loss here.

This is my system.

Asus CM5675
Intel Core I5 650@3.20GHz
Ram (8GB)
GEFORCE GTX960

One thing I have noticed is that I run at around 2% cpu at idle and using Maya,Max and Photoshop at the same time I run around 25% cpu but using UE4 I spike to 80-90% cpu usage on all 4 cores. I dont feel like this should be happening at all since I meet cpu requirements for UE4.

Any help appreciated I am a student in school and this is required program for class and i am a week into the class and still no success on running UE4

Can you monitor CPU and GPU temperature when you running UE4? Some CPU termo protections systems in motherboards freezes PC instead of turning it off. You can also check logs in your computer management (right click “Computer” and click “Manage”) there might be hint left there too

Hey scastiglia,

What version(s) of UE4 are you seeing this freezing in?

In addition, please upload your dxdiag. That computer shouldn’t have any trouble with the editor, but it can’t hurt to check the dxdiag to see if anything seems odd.

I am using UE 4.71

I want to say after running some new tests I found that this program crashes even when running only 40% cpu, I had removed a tone of unwanted process eating programs and still I am running into freezing I am now thinking it has nothing to do with my processor at all.

Hey, just an update, this appears to be an issue with 900-series GPUs. Several other users with 900-series GPUs are seeing huge delays, lag, and similar problems.

This thread is where most of the discussion about the subject is going on - if we find out more about the problem I’ll update that thread.
