Changing avatars

Ok, seeing how UE4 Launcher added a “social” feature and a friendlist, I’ve looked thru ‘Account management’ portion, but other than changing my password and payment method, I’m unable to see how to change the default EpicGames avatar.

Perhaps it’s not an option yet and will come in later but I’d like to know how if it’s possible at the moment

I’m pretty sure it is something you’ll be able to do. Right now its too early to have this feature.

By the way, if you are interested to have a friend list in your own game, please get your vote on this poll  Please open up the friend list system so we can integrate it in our game too! - Feedback for Unreal Engine team - Unreal Engine Forums!

Please, don’t get me wrong, but - the feature is already in there. It’s just that “right now” we’re all sharing the same avatar.

And, again, don’t get me wrong - but I’m expecting a somewhat more direct answer from someone who’s a bit more professionally involved with the said feature(s), instead of a "yea, right now it’s too early to have avatars even though we all do, but it’s surely something that will come down the line. As a matter of fact, if you’re interested in Epic creating a public API to access your UE4-related friendlist from an external app, please vote on my wishful-thinking poll on the forums " as that’s really not a satisfactory answer, or anywhere close to the answer to my question which was “if we can change avatars, how do i do it”.

I’m really not very interested in Epic forking over a new API for UE4 games to access UE4 friendlists in a poorman’s attempt to mimic Steam. Currently, as it is - UE4 very much has it in it’s capabilities to connect and converse with some back-end systems to fetch and update anyone’s account or friendlist. Heavy Gear Assault for example, has that feature in already.

In fact, and I’m not trying to appear rude here - it’s too early to open up the friendlist system to public because it’s only, what, 4-5 weeks old. Your poll will make more technical sense in a month or two, once the friendlist grows out of it’s “child illnesses” which will sporadically crop up (and be reactively ironed out) in the following months.

Saying “don’t get me wrong” and “I don’t want to appear rude” followed by a series of insults to my intelligence does not make your answer less rude.

As I said, its too early you’ll have to wait. having an icon there doesn’t mean its implemented fully.

I came across your question because I was looking for talks regarding the friendslist, I answered your question because it was obvious to me and I took the opportunity to point out something you might have been interested in.
I never forced you anything and saying how easy making a friendlist is by pointing out Heavy Gear Assault is naive.
You don’t know other people’s projects and have obviously never worked on scalable server frameworks so please don’t undermine/insult people when you don’t know what you are speaking about.

claps love the way you said that, passive aggressiveness is awesome
