Everytime i launch the Unreal Engine 4.7.1 it crashes

is there any update or are any of the developers working on a patch update or something? i really need to get this working.

I think with the amount of information you provided Epic will not be able to track down your problem. You should describe what exactly you are doing and attach the log and callstack.

Well once i open the Epic Games Launcher…I try and launch the Unreal Engine 4.7.1 it Initializes all the way and then crashes before the editor opens up.

Do you have an oculus rift plugged in? I have the same issue and removing the oculus rift from my computer works. Still trying to find a way to launch with oculus rift

Nope i do not have an Oculus Rift…And it still crashes

Hi Alim Mo,

Can you try opening the editor directly and let us know if it opens or not? This will let us know if it is Launcher related or the editor itself.

Navigate to this folder: (Your file path may differ slightly.)

  • C:\Program Files\Unreal Engine\4.7\Engine\Binaries\Win64

  • Open the ‘UE4Editor.exe’

I have the exact same problem, and it happens regardless I go through the launcher or start the UE4Editor directly.
I’m on OSX Yosemite, and it always crash with a SIGSEGV for illegal memory access, as I can see from the minidump:
Exception was “SIGSEGV: invalid attempt to access memory at address 0x116”

Hi ndb,

It is likely that the root cause of your issue is different than Alim Mo’s. If it crashes when you launch the .exe then it is the Editor and most likely not the Launcher.

Could you post your crash as a new report in Bug section?

Make sure to read through this link below and include your system specs, Log, and Dmp files in the new report.

Duh?! I tried one last time to start the u4editor, and this time it displayed a message box saying a 4-core AMD processor was suggested (I have an older i7 2-core/4-threads). While I was going to dismiss the dialog with this message, a download for a (newer?) version of the launcher started, so I let it finish and restarted everything from this newly downloaded launcher and now everything works! Both starting from the launcher AND directly. I don’t know what to says, doesn’t really make any sense unless there was something the old launcher did wrong that the newer one has fixed.

Hi Aim Mo,

We haven’t heard back from you in a few days, so we are marking this post as resolved for tracking purposes. If you’re still experiencing this issue, please feel free to post back here with the additional information that I requested above.

Cheers,

TJ
