Editor crash on startup - 4.7.1

Hello everyone! I just updated my project from 4.6 to 4.7.1 and I’m now unable to open my map. Engine crashes every time. But I’m able to open my project with empty map. Reference tree of my map file shows me that map has references to engine code, but not my assets. I tried auto-saved instances of my map, but it crashes either. Assets are working well. Thanks for any help!

Hey ,

Have you updated to 4.7.2 yet? It was released earlier today. I’d like to know if you’re able to open your project in 4.7.2 or not. Also, are you able to create a new project without any crashes?

Looking forward to hearing from you!

I updated to 4.7.2, but it crashes too. I’m able to open my project, but not map file. I’m also able to create new project with any template without any problem. When I migrate my assets from old to new project, they have broken refences. For instance: materials haven’t assigned textures, static meshes haven’t assigned materials etc.

Hey,

Does your project by any include any macros in it? We’re currently investigating a possible bug that includes macros and converting projects to newer versions of the Engine however, it’s not a concrete issue at this time however.

To help narrow down the situation, would you mind providing me the project? I’d like to see if I experience the same issue on my machine too. It’s perfectly understandable if you say no.

Thanks!

I had only two blueprints. No macros. Also, when I open the map, engine stops using CPU and starts eating free space on RAM. I have only 4GB so it’s full quickly. And how do I sent you the project?

Hey ,

Thanks for letting me know that there aren’t any macros included in your project.

Here are a couple of options for you to upload your project:

  • If you have , you could
upload your project in a zip file and
then provide me the link. Make sure
that you allow those with the link to
    obtain the file from your
. You can of course use any
    other uploading site you feel
    comfortable with.

  • If your project is less than 5.2 mb,
you can upload it here on AnswerHub
as well, and I can pull it from your
    post.

Please keep in mind that the Editor does require 8GB of ram however, it does run on systems with less. But this does cause the performance to drop within the program.

What are Unreal Engine 4’s system requirements?
For developing with UE4, we recommend a desktop PC with Windows 7 64-bit or a Mac with Mac OS X 10.9.2 or later, 8 GB RAM and a quad-core Intel or AMD processor, and a DX11 compatible video card. UE4 will run on desktops and laptops below these recommendations, but performance may be limited.

Thank you!

do you have either instanced static meshes or structs in your project?

I decided to end this question. My map file has refernces to redirectors which don’t exist. It will be lot of work to repair it. So I’ll start over with my assets and new project.

Hey,

I’m sorry we couldn’t get this resolved for you in a timely manner. If you run into any other troubles, please either respond here, or create a new thread.

Have a wonderful day!
