How do you copy paste levels

Very basic noob question but… I don’t get this and I can’t find explanations.

How do you copy paste levels?

To further detail…
Why can I duplicate some levels and I can’t duplicate others? Why is Unreal freezing/crashing like crazy when I mess with levels… For example, I open Starter content, Maps, there are default levels there, if I right click on one to try to duplicate it starts loading objects instead… and then it takes forever to do anything. If I try to delete them Unreal crashes. If I don’t delete them Unreal starts with the wrong level. And there is no copy-paste for levels? Duplicating is only duplicating inside the same folder, which is not what I want. Is there a simple way of doing this in Unreal or I have to close Unreal and use Windows Explorer?

Have you tried opening the level first and letting all the objects load in? Sometimes you need to do this and let all the shaders compile and all the other stuff happen.

You can then close the level (i.e. open or create a new blank one) … make sure the level is not open and then right-click and say duplicate.

You can also keep it open and say Save As instead. Try these and see if it works.

Yes, I can Save As, thanks!

But I was wondering how you go about dealing with large projects and large numbers of files… is there really no way to copy paste? Am I breaking anything if I do it outside Unreal?

The Unreal browser seems to have some hidden functionality, such as… if I add some fbx files to a folder via Windows Explorer, Unreal doesn’t see them. I have to drag and drop them into the browser… and then instead of 1 fbx file it shows me the content of that fbx file… I’m very confused about how this browser works and how it updates and what it sees. Oh, and if I add a folder in Unreal, it can’t be seen by Windows… and I think that if I restart unreal the folder disappears. Unless maybe… I add something to it [?] : /

The crashes btw were because one of the starter levels has a ton of shaders that were compiling forever… Yet again, strange behavior I don’t get, it compiles the shaders inside a file just because I right clicked on it to see if I can duplicate it? And btw, 20-something shaders inside a level are enough to freeze Unreal… [I have an i7 machine, win 7 on ssd, 12gb ram and a GTX 670]. I have the feeling that I’m doing things wrong, or something went wrong somewhere.

Indeed, getting crashes when trying to duplicate a level, but loading the level and using ‘Save As’ works! Using UE 4.6.1

Thank you for your contribution. It worked!
