Search help

  • Simple searches use one or more words. Separate the words with spaces (cat dog) to search cat,dog or both. Separate the words with plus signs (cat +dog) to search for items that may contain cat but must contain dog.
  • You can further refine your search on the search results page, where you can search by keywords, author, topic. These can be combined with each other. Examples
    • cat dog --matches anything with cat,dog or both
    • cat +dog --searches for cat +dog where dog is a mandatory term
    • cat -dog -- searches for cat excluding any result containing dog
    • [cats] —will restrict your search to results with topic named "cats"
    • [cats] [dogs] —will restrict your search to results with both topics, "cats", and "dogs"

I want to start using UE4. Will i have to pay royalties?

Im an architect and i would like to use UE4 for is real time ability using photorealistic quality, however i don´t understand the 5% royalties. I will only use the software for showing the projects to clients. It´s not for earning money or to be sold like a library. Will i have to pay something for each new model i create? Archviz is a service and not an application or a a game, so that´s why im in doubt about the 5%. Finally, can i legaly use "being free" UE4 on my architecture studio?

According the the EULA and FAQ, arch viz is royalty free.

However, no royalty is owed on the following forms of revenue:

2- Consulting fees or work-for-hire fees which are non-recoupable for services performed using the Licensed Technology (e.g., an architect-created walkthrough simulation or a contractor-developed in-house training simulator);

Be sure to give the FAQ and EULA a read!

Dissonanceint is correct - there are no fees or royalties in the scenario you described. There are no royalties on work-for-hire fees like yours, but royalties would apply if you, say, made a model of a stadium and then began selling that model on an app store.

So i can work on my studio with UE4 completely legal and completely free of payments? I didn´t understand exactly this part : "However, no royalty is owed on the following forms of revenue: 2- Consulting fees or work-for-hire fees which are non-recoupable for services performed using the Licensed Technology (e.g., an architect-created walkthrough simulation or a contractor-developed in-house training simulator);" Sorry but english is not my primary language. Thank you

If you are creating architectural visualizations for individual clients for a fixed fee (i.e., custom arch-viz work), you owe nothing to Epic.
