[Feature Request] Package for iOS w/o developer certificate (jailbreak)

I don’t use iOS, but when I noticed that UE4 can package for iOS, I noticed something missing: there’s no way to natively (i.e. without requiring any kind of unofficial workaround) package an app for jailbroken devices, as one might want to do if they aren’t a registered iOS developer. Perhaps it could even compile a package file that could be added to a Cydia repository. I know jailbreaking isn’t supported by Apple, but that doesn’t mean it can’t or shouldn’t be supported by Unreal.

Does your contract with Apple specifically say you aren’t allowed to assist in making apps for jailbroken devices? If not, they may not like it, but there’s nothing they can do about it.

Hi flarn2006,

I will go ahead and put this in as a feature request, but I can tell you without checking that there is virtually no chance of this occurring. Apple is a partner, and they’re not fans of jailbreaking, as you rightly pointed out. So with that in mind, I wouldn’t expect this to happen anytime soon.

I won’t be able to get official contract details for either of us, but I am pretty sure it does. I have put in your feature request (UE-11419) for further consideration.

Even if there are no actual legal reasons, we aren’t going to do anything that would reduce chances of Apple inviting us back on stage at WWDC/press events or other such interaction. As wittlief says, they are a partner.

However, since you have access to the full source code, you are able to make whatever changes you want.

At least it’s not for moral reasons–there’s nothing morally wrong (or even illegal, at least in the US) about jailbreaking. (Not saying you claimed there was.)
