Helpful information for iMac users

Hello all,

This is just some feedback on my take and experience with the new UE4 release…

iMac info:
21.5 inch, Mid 2011 (12,1)
OS X 10.9.2
2.5 GHz Intel Core i5
16 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
AMD Radeon HD 6750M 512MB

When I first signed up and installed the Launcher, UE4 run but was a little sluggish…I did try to disable
a couple of settings in the Quick settings drop down (I backed the settings down to Medium in (Engine Scalability Settings) Quality…to low and medium (tried the Auto also, but they all went back to EPIC…

It appeared to help a little and was still usable with no problems, but then I installed the…hot fix
QFE-FromCL-2027741-Shelve-2030638.zip (from a different post I read)

After that I relaunched again …closed the Launch program…about the same a little better…

Then what I did what closed UE4 and opened up the Disk Utility and ran the “Repair Disk Permissions” and
rebooted…Then ran (first thing) after rebooting Onyx (under Automation Menu) with ALL the boxed checked…
Clicked Execute…May take a while on some iMacs…Then when Onyx finished clicked on Reboot computer…

Then again stated UE4…Start up was TWICE as fast as before and ALL settings in the Quick Settings drop down
that I had changed (which was only the Engine Scalability Settings) set back to default (Epic)…

Now it’s just running like a smooth kitten purring…opened up all the different Marketplace samples compiled one
to my iPad…works great…all still running nice…with no problems…

I hope this reaches all at Epic and users that may try on their macs and see if it helps…

Like I say just some feedback info…for all.

Thanks for UE4…GREAT JOB!!! to all at Epic!

Respectfully,

Thanks for sharing your experience, Sharp1959.

No Problem, I hope you all work out the performance issues, I really like UE4 and look forward to completing
some projects, but right now I’m finishing up my current projects in Unity 4.3.4

Thanks

Would you say this still works in Unreal 4.7.3? I read in another AnswerHub thread that Epic has since changed a lot about how the engine works together with the system.

Hi Shrooblord,

Here are the recommended specs for running UE4:

  • Desktop PC with Windows 7 64-bit or a Mac with Mac OS X 10.9.2 or later

  • 8 GB RAM

  • Quad-core Intel or AMD processor

  • DX11 compatible video card

Check out this Forum post. It’s an excellent place to see what others are using to run UE4 and discuss specs.

Cheers,

TJ
