On Launch, URE4.7.2 displays tray icon and initializes to 100% - but does not run/open

Hey All

Downloaded URE 4.7.2 on 3/9/2015 - have installed and signed-up for an account.

Upon clicking the LAUNCH in the top-left corner of the launcher, I get a window that initializes to 100%, then puts a tray icon in my start bar, but then does nothing else. If I mouse over the icon of the engine (not launcher), I get a preview of a transparent window; tabbing to the window does nothing.

My Specs:

Windows 8.1
8 GB RAM
3.2 GHz i5 processor
64-bit OS

Edit 1: Have tried running the engine directly from the explorer without accessing the Launcher first - this also failed

Hi devonc01,

Could you try bypassing the Launcher and opening the ‘UE4Editor.exe’ directly? I will help us narrow down the issue.

Navigate to this folder (your file path may vary slightly):

C:\Program Files\Unreal Engine\4.7\Engine\Binaries\Win64

Open the ‘UE4Editor.exe’.

Tried that, just resulted in another instance that ended up being a transparent window

Could you also post your dxdiag (system specs) and any Log files?

Dxdiag:

Windows: Go to the Start menu and type ‘dxdiag’ into the search bar. Open that file and then click ‘Save All Information’. Post that text file here.

Log files:

Hi devonc01,

We haven’t heard back from you in a few days, so we are marking this post as resolved for tracking purposes. If you’re still experiencing this issue, please feel free to post back here with the additional information I requested above.

Cheers,

TJ

Hey TJ,

I haven’t had a chance to try this yet, I will do so in the near future - hopefully this week - please note that the issue WAS NOT RESOLVED.

Thanks for your response

Not a problem, just post back here you have time.

Here’s my DxDiag File

Everything with your system specs look good so far. Try updating your graphics card driver, but make sure not to install the beta driver. They can sometimes be unstable.

Also, don’t forget to post any Log or Dmp files that you may have.

Hey TJ,

I just tried to update my graphic driver - said it was up to date, this is based with the same log as before.

There isn’t much more I can suggest without seeing your Log and Dmp files. Please post them here when you have a chance.

Directions

Hey TJ,

I have no LOG files whatsoever, going down into every folder listed in your “Directions” link leads to dead ends everywhere:

Editor Session:
C:\Program Files\Epic Games\4.7\Engine\Saved contains a folder: “UnrealBuildTool” and nothing else

Game Logs:
No game log folder matches the given path

Build/Cook/Package:
C:\Users\Devon\AppData\Roaming\Unreal Engine contains a folder: “UnrealBuildTool” but no ‘AutomationTool’ nor ‘Logs’ folder

Crash Logs:
The ReportQueue folder is empty

Here’s my text for the dxdiag

Okay, so here is a couple of things to try.

First, in the Launcher > Library > under the Engine version choose ‘Verify’. Once it finishes, try opening the Editor again.

If that doesn’t work, go into your antivirus/firewall and disable it. Then try opening the Editor again. If this works, then you only need to add exceptions for the Editor and maybe even the Swarm Agent.

If neither of these work, let me know.

I have exactly the same problem when trying to run Editor it loads a up to 100 percent and go to statusbar, in task manager process is running. When trying to click the status bar icon , nothing happens , if i try to switch with alt + tab , nothing happens. I have a feeling that the editor is working , but just can not be displayed.
I have latest Nvidia drivers. System was installed few days ago. I ran verification, i installed version 4.6 and all time i have same problem, initialization to 100% and disappears.

But i have log.link text

Windows 8.1 64bit
i7 3770k

Hi icek,

It looks like it maybe the same issue but yours does differ slightly from devonc01’s because he is trying to open only the editor but your log files show that you are trying to load a specific .umap. You can set the editor up to load a specific project when opened. Did you do that or is this the first time using the editor?

This is first time.

Hey TJ,

Updated to the 4.7.4, still same issue even after verify and removing the firewalls…

Interesting thing to note I didn’t notice before - if I mouse over the actually exe in my startbar, then I quickly right-click and move to the Maximize/Restore/Minimize/etc area, and choose ‘restore’ - a blank-white window appears in the center of my screen:

no top-right minimize/maximize/close visible, but when I mouse around, I can see ‘onmouseover’ events occurring, but with no content, then I can click in the top-right and it closes the window - it appears that some of it exists, but doesn’t work appropriately. Attached is my dxdiaglink text

Hi devonc01,

Is this still an issue if you install 4.7.5?

Update - didn’t work on 4.7.5 either.

Update 2 - disabled my nVidia Geforce GTX 750 and it worked.

I’m having a similar issue with GTA V for some reason. Looks like nVidia driver issue…
