Hi
I am new here.
I create game packs and sell it on online stores, these are assets, game maps, characters and animations.
I am learning unreal right now and will be selling on epic marketplace as well.
I am currently working on a book on games where I am talking about all the major game engines and will mention unreal too.
For that I will be creating a crowd funding campaign and those who buy my book, I will give out game asset packs as perks with the book.
- Now for mentioning unreal engine in the book will the royalty exemption apply?
Perks will include 2D assets as well as 3D assets.
Now I want to know if I make unreal game maps and give these as perks ( obviously at a low cost than the marketplace for the funding of the book), will the royalty exemption apply here or not? I will be giving the maps with whole unreal project as perks.
My issue is the funding perk will be like this : - book + other assets + 1 to 5 unique unreal game map projects containing unique assets. say for total of $50.
2)If I have to pay the royalty, will it apply on the total cost or after deducting the book and other assets price ( for only the unreal maps)?
3). Say if I sell total perks of $50000 out of which unreal maps constituted only $4000. So 5% royalty of 4000 comes to $200. FAQ says UE4 is free to use, with a 5% royalty on gross product revenue after the first $3,000 per game per calendar quarter from commercial products.
So unless I make minimum $3000 per game map, royalty is exempted ? or the total earning of 4000 from all maps will be used for calculating royalty? Basically each map will be considered as a different game or not?
