Then I noticed it is marked as “resolved” so probably won’t get noticed…
user is saying that editor is useless due to heavy CPU usage but in my case I have virtually any CPU usage (8% including all my other open apps) and I am getting frame rates of between 0 and 7 FPS so I figure we are in virtually same boat…
Okay, I am going to sound like a complete idiot here but what is DxDiag?
I did a Spotlight search for it on my HDD and only found header file
Is this something I can start from within UE or must I build it from UE source? As is, editor builds perfectly and then just dies as soon as it starts to run (still waiting for an answer on that issue) but everything else I tried to build just gave me compilation errors so I am not able to build DxDiag if I still need to do that step…
If I can run it from UE editor, could you please direct me to where?
I thought that also but reading post I linked to above, it seems system works just fine on a laptop using a screen card of lower specs than my own… This got me curious… if specs are worse and it performs better than my system then surely it can’t be card, can it?
I’m not sure how Mac drivers work for laptop cards, but a driver update could help if it’s available. Sometimes full utilization of graphics card isn’t realised without updated drivers.
Okay, I am going to throw a spanner in works here…
Up until last night I was not able to build engine successfully and up till last night I was having absolutely pathetic results in all demo scenes. To give you an idea, I was trying to play strategy demo and my experience was of type where I press left arrow and about 3 seconds later my entire screen updates to reveal I am now on other side of screen. There is no scrolling involved. Clicking to collect gold required that I click about 20 times to hope my click registers. gold vanished over a period of about 5 seconds after click registered… This was how I played game…
So last night, after I built project from source, I tried to play same scene and this time it played smooth as silk. I had a look at quality settings and found I was playing on epic settings! Bloody hell ! What a huge improvement!
So I had a look at frame rates in my other demos and wouldn’t you know it… shooter demo won’t start because it complains something is not compiled and cannot be found, other scenes still give me 3 FPS and when I tried to set reflections demo’s quality from medium to auto, editor crashed and I have not been able to start it back up again since…
But how do you like that? Built it from source and suddenly a game that was laggy as hell on Low quality was perfectly smooth as can be on epic settings… even though editor still reported 3 FPS on everything else… What am I missing here???
