How to disable DFAO without disabling ray traced shadows?

I can turn off Distance Field Ambient Occlusion in the editor by going to Show->Lighting Features->DistanceField AO, but when I play the game, the DFAO is turned back on. I can disable it by typing show distancefieldao in the console, but that setting is not remembered the next time I play.

How do I turn off DFAO permanently? Note that I still want the ray traced distance field shadows.

I’m facing the same issue in 4.11. Turning off DFAO “removes” DistanceFieldShadowing - DF shadows do appear to render, but in an extremely small radius past my cascaded shadows and the settings for them on my directional light no longer function.

Distance field shadows are broken like this until I activate DFAO manually through the command line in the editor or in-game (doesn’t work in consolevariables.ini). None of these settings stick.
