Black new project

Hi there,

This is my second day using the engine, Yesterday everything was perfect. Today whenever I try the 3rd r 1st person blueprints, I can’t find any of the materials, shaders, nothing.

The other problem is when I start a new blank project, I get a black screen with a grid. When I checked tutorials online they all get a cloudy sky. How can I fix this please?

Choose With Starter Content option while creating a new project and you’ll get them.

That is after choosing it.

that is only happening to me on MAC but on my PC it starts normally.

Hey ,

When you’re creating a new project on Windows or Mac and you’d like default content included, you will need to select the template that you want and make sure you include With Starter Content. If you do not choose this, it will not appear within the template that you’re creating.

When you create a template without any starting content, you receive a project that looks like this:

If this is not how your template looks when you create one without starter content, please upload a picture so I can see what you’re seeing.

Keep in mind that if you choose a template with starting content, you’ll receive 3 maps already included. You find these under: Content > Starter Content > Maps

When you go to: File > New Level You have an option of an empty level that looks like a grid in blackness or to choose a default level, which has the blue sky and the floor (as shown above).

Hopefully this information helps if not, please respond back with additional details and we’ll assist you further.

Thanks!

Hi there,

I wish this is how my scene looks like… I am talking pitch black screen… As if you are in outer space without the stars and the planets… I am doing fine on my PC I get the screen you are getting but not on my MAC.

Hi again, this is what I get

Hey ,

In the World Outliner, are any of the labels hidden? You can tell whether or not the eye icon is open or closed. In order to see the blue sky and the floor, you need to make sure the very top eye icon is set to visible:

Cheers!

Hmmmm I replied here like 3 times but for some reason it didnt post my reply. I don’t get anything on the world outliner, only “untitled” with a closed eye, yesterday I tried adding everything manually which worked, but I am sure this isnt how things should be. I am guessing I have corrupted files, but like I mentioned before I tried reinstalling the engine more than 3 times and I deleted anything that had “unreal” on my MAC and still when I reinstall, the launcher tells me that I have the engine installed, when I click on run the engine, it redownloads the engine again as if it isn’t on the machine “which it isn’t”… Sorry for my crappy English, I hope you guys got what I am saying.

Hey ,

Make ‘Untitled’ visible and see if that changes anything. Also look over under ‘modes’ and type in ‘directional light’, then drag it onto your scene. After you’ve done that, you may want to add a ‘Sky Light’ as well. See if that brightens up your level. Make sure that the visibility is on, so the eye is open.

I hope this helps!

Thanks ,

I managed to make the environment work manually by doing everything from scratch but what I am still wonder about is that why is it that on one of my computers everything works fine and on the other one I get only “untitled” and I have to build everything manually from scratch?

I have had this issue several times.

They only consistent thing I’ve been able to do to reproduce the problem:

  1. Create a New Project (with or with Starter Content, doesn’t matter)
  2. Close Unreal and delete that project folder
  3. Create a New Project with the exact same name as before
  4. That new project will open with all black, no lights, no content, no access to content

I am trying to fine out where Unreal is storing a reference or other data to projects names, assuming deleting that reference will resolve the issue
