VR: Player start viewing direction is 90° off

When starting in VR mode, the initial viewing angle of the player is currently 90° off, it’s not the configured initial viewing direction of the player start icon.

When I rotate the rift 90 to the RIGHT relative to the camera and then starting the game, it’s ok.

I tested this with the ‘Realistic rendering’ demo, too. It’s the same problem there (you are facing the right wall instead of looking straight into the room).

Hello ,

After a bit of digging I found that this is a known issue (UE-11247) that has been sent to the developers for further consideration. Thank you for your time and information.

Make it a great day

I fixed this temporarily with this setup:

Hello ,

I am happy to hear that you have found a workaround for your issue. I would also like to thank you for posting it to the AnswerHub for other users to find.

I’m also hitting this in 4.9.1.

Hello ,

Could you try using the “Reset orientation and position” node?

I am running into exactly the same issue, primarily with multiplayer clients and, no, using ‘Reset Orientation and Position’ does not resolve it.

Hello Troyminator,

I went ahead and double checked on this issue for you. This issue’s status has not been updated to fixed as of yet. I will be sure to bump up the community interest for this issue. Thank you for your time and information.

Will this ever be fixed…?

Hello ,

I went ahead and double checked on this issue for you. It’s status has still not been updated as of yet. I will bump the community interest for this issue again. I know that you had a workaround before, have you reached a point where it is no longer viable?

The workaround is still working (and still necessary) in 4.10. I am just irritated: I mean, since when does UE4 now have VR support? 4.4? And Epic really didn’t consider fixing a bug for years which makes the player look in the wrong direction on startup…?

No offense, but working with cameras and VR in UE4 still makes me feel like

I am having this issue as well in 4.13.1 and it is ridiculously frustrating. I can’t seem to get the workaround working either. Can we please prioritize fixing this!

Im fighting with this issue on the GearVR too.

Still not fixed after 1.5 years…

double bump this, still not fixed even in 4.14.1 - this is HUGE issue for GearVR.

Hello ,

Still not fixed, having issues with CV1.

hi
can you please tell me whats the type of Nearest Player Start and Nearest Start?
Thank you!

I’ve found a solution to a problem I was having that seems to me to be similar to this problem, and it’s pretty simple.

Under the Camera Settings tab on my pawn’s camera I had at some point checked Use Pawn Control Rotation. Unchecking this fixed the issue for me.

My issue might have been different though; for instance movement with the headset was actually inverted (e.g. moving my head forward caused the ingame camera to move backwards), and it seemed like the pivot point when turning with the mouse wasn’t at the center of the camera.

That being said, if anyone is having the same problem as me, I figure it’s worth it for me to put this here instead of starting a new thread, because this thread seemed to be describing the issue I had.

Thank you that worked for me! The player starts in the exact direction the player start is pointing now!
