What is different about the two templates?

Side Scroller Template is a 3D side scrolling game. The character is locked to a specific axis he’s able to roam freely on. The 2D Side Scroller Template is created out of Paper 2D and you’re also locked on a specific axis as well. However, all of the assets are 2D instead of 3D. Here is some additional information from the [UE4 Documentation][1] for Paper 2D.
You can also download ‘Content Examples’ from the ‘Learn’ tab and learn more about all the features that UE4 has to offer.
