Crash on Launch

I can verify the installation - OK

When I click on the yellow Launch button I get a small splash screen followed by the crash reporter screen (UE4Editor-Cmd.exe).

Also, if I click Content Examples I get the (same) UE4Editor-Cmd.exe process has crashed in the crash reporter screen.

I have downloaded and re-installed but still crashes. I have tried running with my laptop’s integrated GPU and also with the nvidia 780m card assigned.

No answer, so I’ll add a little:

After browsing around here it looks to me as if ‘Optimus’ may be the culprit.

I’m seeing the same problem here with people trying to launch on a laptop that has an integrated Intel GPU (on die, I think) and an Nvidia gpu (model number with ‘m’ at the end… mine is 780m). (this is above minimum specs.)

I’ve tried downloading and re-installing. I have tried a patch I found here. And I have configured the three executables in the win64 folder to use the intel gpu, no luck, and then with the nividia gpu, no luck. (In the Nvidia tool.)

Nothing works. If you need any files (or if I have sent the wrong ones) please let me know.

I’m wondering if you maybe have a laptop there with a similar setup that you could test on?

I installed the unreal udk last week and it ran without any problems. When I saw the license deal on ue4 I thought this would be a better option.

Thanks.

Hey z6,

We’re investigating this issue currently–can you let us know the manufacturer and model number of your laptop?

Thanks!

-Steve

Also, can you post your Nvidia driver version (from the Nvidia control panel)?

Thanks,

-Steve

I am experiencing the exact same problem and error on my desktop. I have ATI Radeon HD 3870 X2. Drivers 8.97.100.3-120703a-145534C-ATI.

Update - I installed the 4.02 patch. The problem is now fixed.

Hi Steve,

The nVidia driver version is the latest (335.23)

The laptop is made by pcspecialist (in the UK) but it is a Clevo model P17SM. These are the cases that pcspecialist use for their custom builds. Below is the display info returned from running dxdiag.exe. It only lists the intel graphics.

Hi Guys. (SOLVED!)

This looks like it’s solved so I’ll explain what I did. This worked for my laptop with integrated intel gpu and nvidia780m. I’ve running around between C++ redists and all manner shenanigans but the answer came from left field.

I ran the dependency walker and found what seemed like many problems. But I was having a similar problem trying to get Autodesk 3ds max working. So I gave ue4 a rest and ran 3dsmax through the walker. The DWalker indicated that when launching 3dsmax the program was trying to find (64-bit) dlls in the windows system32 folder (as was the case with everything I ran through it).

I used the following zip I found in the Autodesk installation: Jun2010_d3dx9_43_x64.cab

I unzipped just the following file directly into the windows system folder: d3dx9_43

To my amazement 3dsmax worked. Then I tried it with Maya, it worked.

And it seemed to have worked with ue4 as well.

So, the autodesk d3dx9_43.dll did the trick for me.

Many thanks. I look forward now to auditioning this wonderful software. And congrats on the pricing model. It is bold and deserves to succeed.
