"minimum" as opposed to "reccomended" PC system requirements for UE4

Hi,

My system specs are below the “recommended”.

Do I need a new PC or is there a “minimum” spec that is good enough to do most things.

Also, once the source code is downloaded and built how much hard drive space do I need to have in addition to Visual Studio 2013 Express requirements of 5 gigabytes.

My system specs are: Geforce GTX460m, Quad core i7 1.7ghz, 8GB ram

Many thanks.

If you are going to be doing development on a laptop, I would not suggest going below any of the recommendations, as laptops are usually slower than desktop PCs with similar hardware specs anyway. Also, your GFX card is below minimum as it is and is also a mobile chip so will be considerably slower.
I would suggest that you invest in a new PC if you want to be doing some solid development with UE4, however, you may find it runs ‘okay’ if you turn down settings to a minimum and have all effects off for the time-being.

As for HD space, you may want some of the example content which can be up to 3GB for one example project, so taking an average size from that, your own projects could easily become large and bloated and therefore having a good amount spare for developing and testing different projects at the start should be essential.

Many thanks Dune. That answers most of my questions.

Any more answers on an official or tried and tested minimum would be much appreciated. I don’t want to get it all set up if it’s not going to be usable.
Thanks again.

You may want to take a look at the below post from the forums, where users are sharing their system specs and their feedback.

Really useful.
