Unreal Engine Launcher Default Browser

I have three Internet browsers installed; IE, Firefox, and Opera. Opera is my default browser. When I click on a link in the Unreal Engine Launcher the opens the URL using Firefox instead of my default browser. This is the only application on my PC that I know of with this problem. Could you please tell me how to configure the launcher to use my default browser?

Hello,

Is it particular links that are causing the issue? I’ve just downloaded and installed Opera and set it to my Default Browser. Inside the editor, going to Help/Wiki for example, opens up a window in Opera. Is there any other information you can provide to help us replicate the issue?

Thanks,

It does not seem to be any particular link that causes the problem. Every link that I have found in the Unreal Engine Launcher opens with Firefox. Although initially I was only experiencing the problem with the launcher, I checked with the editor also and tried the forums, wiki, etc… menu options within the editor and they all open with Firefox also.

I’ve verified that Firefox is not my default browser by opening URLs from word documents & pdf files, and they all open with Opera. Additionally I have used the “check now” button in the Firefox settings and the message returned states that Firefox is not the default browser.

This problem normally would not be much an issue for me, however the Firefox I have installed is an old version of the software used for a very specific purpose. Each time I try and view content in the launcher it is frustrating to acknowledge the “update dialogs” for Firefox.

I uninstalled Firefox and now the editor and launcher links are opening in Opera. If / when I install Firefox again, and the problem returns I’ll re-visit this ticket.

Yes, please let us know. As I said, I downloaded Opera to test this earlier and didn’t encounter the issue that you are describing. I have Firefox, Explorer and Opera on my machine now and Opera was the default browser, clicking Wiki under help in the editor opened up the page in Opera.

Hi ra_ar,

The code that’s in the launcher had a bug in it that prevents it from working correctly all the time. I rewrote that code to fix it, but did so just after launch :frowning: The next full update of the launcher should contain my fix. For now we’re only doing hot fixes on the launcher to fix crash bugs, but soonish I hope it will make its way in!

Glad you were able to work around it.

Cheers,
Nick (Epic Games)

Fixed? I still have this problem in Jan 2021. This launcher is a joke…nothing is working correctly, slow, clunky, unpredictable, old etc
