How can I change the Vault Download Location?

So, I’ve been trying to figure out how to change the location of the Vault in UE4.7.4, I didn’t think about it before, but I see the GBs used by UE on my SSD rising pretty quickly.

I saw a few alternative ways of going around this by some mlink thing, but these questions, which Epic staff have been kind enough to respond to were answered a year ago.

Has there really been no progress done about this feature request that many have asked for? Is there a valid reason as to why you don’t want us to be able to change the location of the Vault? We are allowed to change locations for projects, just curious as to why this has been on the backburner for so long.

Thanks for any and all answers! Have a great weekend!

Hi Victor,

I’m sorry you’re experiencing this issue with hard drive space. It is something we’re still planing to implement in the future but there is not definitive date for it yet. If you take a look at the launcher from the start of UE4 last year and compare it to the current launcher today you can see that there’s been a lot of work going on with the launcher. The reason it’s been on the backburner for so long is mostly due to prioritizing. That said though, giving us feedback through the answerhub (and more importantly the forums) help inform us what we need to prioritize and what is important to the users.

I too need to change the location of the VaultCache. My SSD is getting full and pretty quickly as well, and nearly all of it is Unreal content except for the OS pretty much. I do understand that there is the solution to create a symbolic link and use that but I can’t get it to work as it claims that the file already exists. Not sure what to do, but that’s out of scope for this fora.

But yes, pleeeease add this feature.

Hi, I see this was discussed long ago, what’s the status now?

Still on the back burner?

Yeah, this is set as backlogged at the moment but I know that this is something the Launcher devs would like to get implemented at some point. I updated the JIRA to reflect multiple interests.

Thanks! Have a nice weekend.
