Windows freezes when I try to open any asset from Open World Demo Collection

I use UE 4.7.4 (was same with 4.7.3) and Windows 8.1.

I don’t have that problem with other assets packs like Water Planes.

project is a clean one with just starter content that I created just to test demo.

Hello,

Can you please provide your computer specs so we can help your further with this issue?

Hi Harrison, here’s my DxDiag.

I’m getting same problem with Open World Demo Collection. Started a blank project with no starter content and just added Open World Demo content to project to test it out and have a look at some of assets. Just updated to latest 4.7.4 version just before downloading Open World Demo (was having big freezing problems with 4.7.3 as well so was hoping update would fix all that). I tried loading ‘Overview’ level from content browser and it loaded to 54% quickly and then froze there for what seemed about 20 mins or so. Closed engine with Task Manager and restarted. Added Cliff01 Asset to scene and that worked fine but as soon as I dragged one of tree assets into scene again it froze whole engine and was stuck loading at 99% for about 7-10 mins.

I’m running an i7 3770 with 16GB DDR3 RAM and a GTX 780 SC. I don’t know everything just feels like it’s running so sluggishly now. I seem to get quite bad loadtimes every time I drag an asset into scene.

I’ve got this Problem as well…
Ive got an Intel Core i7 860 @ 3.2 GHz, 8GB RAM, nVidia GTX 660 Ti.

I know that my Computer is not that good, but it should be able to load a tree or a rock from this collection
Maverik says exactly what my issues are as well, but my Unreal Engine never froze before like that :frowning:

I have a gtx 770 with 12 Gigs DDR3. I can honestly say mine got stock at 54 too…After 45 minutes it finished. After it finished loading once now it’s spend up a lot.

Hey all,

I was experiencing this issue on my end until I updated to 4.7.5.

Would you mind testing to see if you still getting same results in this version of engine?

Thank you,

Hello Mr. ,

sadly I am still having this problem… It worked nicely for one static mesh, but when I pulled out another one from content browser into viewport editor freezes again - it’s now in this state for about 25 minutes

Did you create a completely new project and added Openworld-Content again, or did you convert your project after updating Engine and just tried to place a few of meshes again?

I’m because somehow conversion doesn’t work right. Engine always tells me that project is from an older build, even after “converting in place”… I don’t know if this is a known bug or maybe my project is damaged or something like that, haven’t tried creating a new one and testing it out.

Hi Andew.

I’m still having same issues.

I created a new project and it took like 10 minutes to open a static mesh. I tried to open overview level an after 3 hours level was still loading, stuck at 55%.

Hi all,

long load times is a result of very large textures. Take a look at this post for more information (and a workaround):

Hope that helps!

Thanks for reply . I had a feeling it was just those 8K textures taking a while to load. Good to hear that load times are improved a bit in 4.8. Looking forward to it.
