Search help

  • Simple searches use one or more words. Separate the words with spaces (cat dog) to search cat,dog or both. Separate the words with plus signs (cat +dog) to search for items that may contain cat but must contain dog.
  • You can further refine your search on the search results page, where you can search by keywords, author, topic. These can be combined with each other. Examples
    • cat dog --matches anything with cat,dog or both
    • cat +dog --searches for cat +dog where dog is a mandatory term
    • cat -dog -- searches for cat excluding any result containing dog
    • [cats] —will restrict your search to results with topic named "cats"
    • [cats] [dogs] —will restrict your search to results with both topics, "cats", and "dogs"

Help: Engine downloading at 1/10th possible download speed?

Speedtest.net claims my download speed is approximately 5 MB/S. Unfortunately, the engine seems to be downloading at 400-600kb/sec instead. How can I fix this?

Hi menasheh,

I'm sorry you are having this issue. We don't cap the download speed in anyway on our end. If you would like to investigate the issue further, please follow the instructions in this section of the troubleshooting guide to generate your Debug Logs, then post them here.

By now I'm downloading other things to the vault. Here are the debug logs:

It seems to me like you are confusing bits and bytes. ISPs like to to report their speed in bits per second as that allows them to advertise a higher number, while your OS and most programs tend to use bytes.

Notice how the speed test uses a lower case b which is short for bit, while Unreal uses an upper case B which is short for byte. If we convert the 607.4 kilobytes to megabits we get 607.4 * 8 / 1000 = 4.86 megabit.

So the good news is that Unreal downloads at almost your maximum possible speed. The bad news is that the only way to get it to go faster is to upgrade your internet connection.
