Flickering shadows in Open World Demo Content

I just started learning UE4 and installed the Open World Demo content, trying out the Showcase Map.
I’ve run into an issue with the tree leaf shadows flickering, shown in the animated GIF attached.

This flickering is visible on computers with 3 different GPUs:

  • Win 7 with nVidia Quadro 2000
  • Win 7 with nVidia Quadro 4000
  • Win 7 with nVidia GTX 980 (driver version
    347.88)

Interestingly the flickering is absent on a

  • Mac Pro AMD FirePro D700 6GB

This would suggest that it’s an nVidia or a Windows issue, but considering the maturity of Unreal Engine, and the lack of issues related to nVidia rendering on the UE4 AnswerHub, I’m guessing that the issue may be related to my inexperience.

Is there a setting that I’m supposed to modify to prevent the flickering?

For the Open World Demo Content, all I did was add the content to a Blank project, then double-click on the Showcase map.

I have also run into this problem recently with the trees in all of my scenes. Although when i first placed them, there was no such problem.

Opening up a new scene and placing them in there shows no flickering but that hardly solves the problem as this started out of nowhere and I am years into some of my projects.

This is on an AMD HD6870 card with fully up to date drivers. So at the moment so would love to find any solution.

Am testing my projects on another PC later today with a Gtx670 card, interesting to see if it is a GPU problem.

Anyway, I would also greatly appreciate any information on this flickering problem.

I get this flickering on the KiteDemo project (didn’t test Open world demo content). My card is a Radeon R9 390.
