Widget Component Crash

I’m using the latest binary release of Unreal: 4.7.5. I’ve been trying to create a widget on the screen above an actor’s head. With the latest release of Unreal I had heard that the widget components now come with a screen setting which displays your widget blueprints on the screen. I created a blank widget blueprint, and an actor blueprint. Inside of the actor blueprint I added a widget component which uses as its widget class my widget blueprint that I created. If I have the space attribute set to ‘World’ the game does not crash, however if I set it to ‘Screen’ as soon as I run the game it crashes. I’m not sure if this is a bug or if I’m doing something wrong.

Hello Meziel,

I was unable to reproduce this issue on our end. I have a few questions for you that will help narrow down what issue it is that you are experiencing.

Quick questions:

  1. Can you reproduce this issue in a clean project?
  2. If so, could you provide a detailed list of steps to reproduce this issue on our end?
  3. Is this a project that has been upgraded from an older version of the engine?

Thank you for your quick reply, sorry I haven’t been able to respond until just now.
I tried reproducing my result on a clean project and I couldn’t do it, and yes my project was upgraded from an older version of the engine. I believe it was 4.7.4. I think that’s the problem as I did the exact same things to recreate the crash using a blank project and my current one and they had different results. Also, now that I think about it I may have created my project from the source files from 4.7.4. I’m not sure.

I transferred all my assets to a new project and now everything works. Thanks.

I would like to reopen this because I found that the problem occurs when you are running in dedicated server mode.

Hello Meziel,

I was able to reproduce your issue on our end. However, after doing a bit of testing I found that this issue has been resolved internally. This solution will be available in a later release of the engine. Thank you for your information and time.

Make it a great day
