More options for image sequence export? (exr/bit depth/passes)

Hey There,

I am currently setting up a project wich includes lots of animation and movies.
It would be great to get rendered out image sequences that are uncompressed, more than 8 bit in depth and in the best case linear, too.

I’d like to postprocess them in the software Nuke.

Everything seems to work so far. matinee export allows me to get an image sequence in png (wich is lossless but not very handy) at a custom resolution.
so far so good.

But it would be really really great to

  • get the option to render out sequences in formats like tiff, tga, dpx and especially exr.
  • get linear colours
  • adjust the bit depth to 10 or maybe even 16 bit
  • render out passes like AO, material IDs, shadows, reflections etc

Is there any way to get some of these points working?
I heard about the dump movie function but couldn’t find my answer in the documentation and forums so far.
could this be the key? and if yes; how?

or is there any plugin around?

Thank you all so much in advance!

Same here!

Need that too. It seems that people are able to use the sequencer to export to exr (maybe 16 bit depth since the highresscreenshot function outputs 16bit depth as well, but that’s all but assumption) but I have not found anything on how to do this exactly. Sadly.

I think I might have found a much easier solution than I thought I would find.

I’ve heard from a friend of mine who works at Epic in the blueprint department that there is supposed to be a plugin to enable taking HighResShots in exr format via console which I didn’t find and couldn’t find any documentation about.

I’ve read about altering the code but even if I did that I would still not know how to make the engine take screenshots in the right format.

As someone told me it would work that way I tried getting into the sequencer but…stopped, because

Now after 2 days of research I found the simplest solution. In the Matinee. Clicking on the Movie icon in the top right corner you can choose “Custom Render Passes”. Now a bit further down in the options you can check the box for “HDR” which will produce EXRs for every frame. You can add all the tracks you want or need in another drop down menu.

I must say I feel a bit dumb, posting in years old threads and questions in the forum and the answer hub to find the sultion to be that simple.

I hope, even though it comes late, that this is helpfull to you.
