Strange pointlight fading behavior with Additive or Translucent material

Hi,

I have a setup where I use a point light to illuminate a sky dome. The Sky Dome material is set to Translucent. The problem I am facing now is that from the ground, the light is not visible because it’s automatically turned off. From a certain distance, the falloff becomes a rectangle instead of being a circle. The distance from the camera to the light isn’t that big, about 14000 units. I have tested it with an opaque material for the sky dome, and it works properly. The issue only happens when using a translucent or additive material.

I’ve tried the following and the results weren’t good:

  • Increase the light’s Attenuation radius
  • Decrease the Min Screen Radius for lights from 0.030000 to 0.01 (or lower) - Doesn’t seems to do anything (only affects the light if I increase it, and then the light turns off from an even shorter distance from the camera.

Light setup and distance from world center and sky dome

What it looks like from a short distance when the camera is close to the light source (also the expected result)

What it looks like when I move away from the light source

Any idea about what’s going on or about the settings that I need to set to avoid this issue (in the light or the material)?

Thanks,

I’m having that issue too.

Try changing your lighting mode in the translucency - I just set mine to surface forward shading and it fixed it for me.
