[4.7.6 mac] VR preview not working / crashing

After clicking VR preview my oculus goes black and UE4 hangs up. Sometimes i can esc out but usually this locks up UE4 and i have to force quit. Same behavior on 4.7.5. The same project works fine on my PC with VR preview.

Mac trashcan 10.10.3 (Tried it with 10.10.2 as well)

Hello effectzero,

I was able to reproduce this issue on our end. I have written up a report (UE-14152) and I have submitted it to the developers for further consideration. I will provide updates with any pertinent information as it becomes available. Thank you for your time and information.

I am experiencing the same problem here. The only way to get out from this is to Force Quit Unreal.
The only way I have to preview something in VR is to Play as standalone, move it to the second screen, alt+enter and even then the framerate sucks, the image stutters and the quality seems low.

This doesn’t happen with any Oculus app I’ve tried prior to try the Unreal integration.
Any tips on how to fix this?

Hello Capcom707,

I do not currently have a workaround other than what was specified in your post at the moment. However, I can assure you that the developers are looking into the issue. I will be sure to bump up the community interest for this report. Thank you for you information and time.

Thank you Rudy for your answer.
I don’t have any problem with opening on second screen as standalone, but I am wondering if there is any way to smoothen the frame rate and avoid annoying stop-motion-like experience.
I was trying to load a simple scene with just a floor and even with almost no cpu needs the VR visual experience seems very slow. I’m using mac OS 10.10.3 and the latest Unreal Engine 4.

Hello Capcom707,

You could try using the console commands r.SetRes and r.ScreenPercentage to try and optimize your performance. After making adjustments and trying these out if you still need assistance I will need you to make a new post for tracking purposes. I believe that your last question is different enough from the original question that it needs it own thread.

Make it a great day
