Diff with Git

I’m running 4.7.6 on windows 7.

I connected my project to GitHub and most of the source control functions are working fine. When trying to diff a level from it’s history window, I get the following error message: “Unable to load assets to diff. Content may no longer be supported?”

Anyone got this feature working?

Hi,

Edit, yes, to different problems:

  1. When diffing an asset, at least a Blueprint, I think there is a bug with the Editor if the asset was ever renamed in history. I should get back to Epic on this one!
  2. If you are talking about the history of a Map / a Level, I did not even try it, but I will ASAP! Edit: no, diffing a Map is not working, but I am not surprise as it is not really possible diffing a 3D level… We should tel Epic to remove the menu entry for these kind of asset.

Cheers!

Good to know. Thanks.

Another question while we’re at it: diff’ing materials is also not supported? The editor tries to use a text compare…

Yes, only Bluetprints have Visual Diffs.

Have a look at the official Blog :

  1. diffing-unreal-assets
  2. diffing-blueprints

Cheers!

What about level blueprints? Is there some way to extract that aspect for diffing purposes, since it seems to be embedded in the umap file? Feature request?

You can compare level blueprints through the blueprint window:
File > Diff > Depot
