[Feedback] Usability: Default Shortcut for the Console not working for some keyboard layouts

The Problem

The in editor console is currently only avialable with a shortcut (tilde) not working for most keyboard layouts.

There is no visual way to open the console. One has first to find out, that the console is not exposed in the gui anymore (as you can see in this post, that’s not obvious, if you find older instructions).
Then one has to find the shortcut in the settings (which somehow shows a different key than the tilde one can find in the forums). If you don’t have an english keybord, you will find yourself trying out different keys. I’ve tried out the key above Tab, the tilde key (once with Shift and once with AltGr), the [`]and the [´] keys and the ['] key.

finally, after doing 30 minutes of research, I finally decided to assign a custom shortcut (I chose F12)

That’s suboptimal, as because of the high framerate by default, many new users will try to lock the framerate, finding themselves searching how to open the console for half an hour.

Suggestions

  • choose a default console shortcut which actually is usable independent of the localization.
    • maybe even two ways:
      • one with the tilde in order not to confuse the users already used to it
      • and one international - maybe always the key above the tab?)
  • add an alternative way to open the console using the menu-bar. Maybe a console panel?
  • Add a way to lock the framerate more easily, as this is something new users want to change, reducing the number of users needing to use the console
    • Maybe even lock the framerate by default?

Additional information

I am using a Windows 8 x64 bit machine with a german keyboard layout.
