Building 4.8 engine for OS X fails, please help

Hello! So, here’s my issue. I downloaded unreal engine 4.8 (from someone whom I’m working on a project with) in order to get a look at what they’d been doing with their game so far.

So, I followed the instructions. 1. I downloaded a copy of the source files. 2. I ran setup.command.

Everything was going well, until I got to the updating dependencies part. Then this happened: https://vid.me/983D.

Not sure how to fix that. It just keeps going back and forth. So, I tried to restart the setup.command, that didn’t do anything. It just repeated the same issue. I tried ignoring it and just continuing with the process, but when I got to the step to build it in X-Code, I got this error:

Command /Users/Julian/Desktop/UnrealEngine/Engine/Build/BatchFiles/Mac/Build.sh failed with exit code 5

So, as I’m not a particularly techie person, I’d greatly appreciate any help to get this to stop, so I can run the program. Thanks a ton!!!

Hey alphawolfjmi-

I downloaded the engine and ran Setup.command which completed without any problems. It’s possible that an error occurred during the download process for you or the build that you downloaded had an issue. Please try downloading the latest promoted branch or redownload the 4.8 branch and try running again.

Cheers

Hey, I tried again, still didn’t work. Not sure what’s happening exactly. Thanks though!

Are you able to download other engine versions (such as 4.7.6) or does the same thing happen when running setup.command
