The Installer has encountered an unexpected error

I receive this error when I tried to install the package:

“The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package. This may indicate a problem with this package. The error code is 2503.”
“The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package. This may indicate a problem with this package. The error code is 2502.”’

I’ve no idea what can I do for this, help is appreciated thanks…

This is most likely a folder permission issue. There are a few threads on this topic that might be of some help. Before we jump into those, have you tried running the installer as Administrator? On Win7 you can just right click the installer and select “Run as administrator”

Hi, thanks for the reply. But in Win 8, if I right click there are only Install button. How can I run as Administrator in Win 8? Thank you.

Some internet searches will turn up many hits since there are a few ways of running an msi installer as administrator on Win8. I would do it using an elevated command prompt like this:

  1. Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and then tap Search. (If you’re using a mouse, point to the upper-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer down, and then click Search. Or just press the start button in your task bar.)

  2. Enter cmd in the search box, and then right-click or press and hold Command Prompt*.

  3. Select Run as administrator from the menu. Click ‘yes’ when prompted by UAC. Once the command prompt window opens make sure it says Administrator: Command Prompt in the title bar.

  4. Run the installer using the following commandline(NOTE: replace C:\EpicGamesLauncherInstaller.msi with the path to your installer. Don’t forget to include the .msi file extension.)

    msiexec /i C:\EpicGamesLauncherInstaller.msi

I tried everything and got my path right but I still get this error: This installation package could not be opened. Contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer package.

How can I overcome this?

Can you tell me the name of your installer and the folder it is in? It might also help to see the commandline you tried to enter and the folder your command prompt was in when you tried to run the command.

Installer name: EpicGamesLauncherInstaller-2.1.3-2533468

Folder: F:\Users\Lee\Downloads

Ok, this is the commandline you would use in that case:

msiexec /i F:\Users\Lee\Downloads\EpicGamesLauncherInstaller-2.1.3-2533468.msi

,Go into CMD line prompt using admin rights. Move the file to the C: or leave in the same directory with windows explorer, Change the name of it to epic (to make it easy to run the game just by typing in the name) from windows explorer, Type in the command prompt epic, so long as you are in the C: root directory or the same directory that the file is in it will run.

Go into CMD line prompt using admin rights.

Move the file to the C:\ root or leave in the same directory with windows explorer its easier if you move it.

Change the name of it to epic from windows explorer.

Type in the command prompt epic.msi

So long as you are in the C:\ root directory or the same directory that the file is in it will run.

I did run msiexec /I before I got this to run this way but I’m not sure if it’s needed.

The reason I said move it to the Root Directory of the C: drive is that it easier to locate it there in DOS the CMD prompt.

Just keep entering CD… until you are the root directory of the C:\ Drive.
Then you can enter the Simplified name you have changed it to.

Please help me download the epic games launcher for Unreal Engine but everytime i do it its gives me the same error codes (2503 and 2502) and i tried using the cmd with admin rights but still havent work.
