[4.8 P1] Cascaded shadows problem

Create new project with Blueprint Car template (the simple no the advanced template), then make sure you got all settings at max, press F11 to put in full screen 1080 and press to play, when move the car more or less when the car are focus to the axis directions x,y,-x,-y the shadows have a tick/change and look different.
(Check the shadows in the 3º person camera on the car in the seats)

I was able to see this in the 4.8 P1, which didn’t happen in my test with 4.7. When checking this in our 4.8 releases branch that will become the preview release I was not able to see this same behavior. Once the latest preview drops (no specific ETA just yet) can you see if this is still happening. If so, I can look into this further.

Looking at this more, I realize that the scene is using a Stationary light that doesn’t have the dynamic portion of the light/shadows turned on.

This means that the light/shadows being generated for the movable car is being done via the Volume Lighting Samples.

You’ll want to adjust the dynamic shadow distance of the light source that the car is being lit dynamically and not by the volume samples that are placed.

Once you adjust the dynamic light distance you can adjust the other parameters in the CSM tab to get better shadow quality.

I understand this is not your original posts problems, but I’m not able to reproduce with this internally with 4.8. This is also very trivial as well since the light/shadow for the mesh is being generated by the volume lighting samples and not the dynamic portion of the source light. Increasing the volume lighting sample spread by lowering the value from 1 to 0.5 or 0.1 may help if you are adamant about not using the dynamic portion of the Stationary light.

Any issues you’re seeing may be resolved when the final 4.8 release in a couple of weeks, since the preview builds are known to have issues that will be fixed in the next preview or the final release.
