Update fails on Mac with "Error Install Failed"

Starting the launcher now “Updates” then "Update fails with “Error Install Failed” now launcher crashes on start.

I downloaded a fresh Mac OSX copy same deal. Update “fails” “Error: Install Failed”.

  1. Is “Install Failed” really an acceptable error strategy?

  2. I appreciate the extensiveness of the tool set for $20 a month, but really if you are going to charge people money the updates can’t just make the application so unworkable it fails to start.

Hi gwoodruf,

Can you post your logs from here:

/Users/USER.NAME/Documents/UnrealEngineLauncher/Saved/Logs

If possible, zip up the entire folder, sometime’s it’s helpful to have a history. Apologies for the inconvenience.

Hi,
Sorry this post fell off the radar! Are you still having problems? From the looks of the log file, the installation of the update is unable to copy new files downloaded into the app package. Could you check your user’s permissions?

Thank you.

Yes. Still a problem. After any “update” the unreal app will no longer launch. I’ve been downloading fresh a copy every time, but the update still fails. I’m not sure what you mean my User’s permissions. I didn’t do anything strange with them. Just downloaded and run the app. Update. Then won’t start.

Sorry, I was wondering if maybe the .app under /Applications did not have permissions to write new files to itself under your user name but I seem to be unable to reproduce your problem with that setup. Could be worth checking out though.

If you navigate to /Applications in Finder, you’ll see the Unreal Engine app listed. If you select that and then click the File->Get Info menu, you should see the Sharing & Permissions section at the bottom, and there should be your user listed with “(me)” next to it. The privilege should be set to Read & Write

This problem has been resolved by an update.

I suggest more better to clean-up or remove total the UE 4 from OSX and installed new one. And try this software. Clean App 4.
