Since some time (I don’t know exactly, probably since 4.7) I have this strange and annoying behavior in the editor main viewport: when I scroll in the scene with the mouse wheel to get close to an object and I pan right after that (Alt + Middle mouse button) the zoom I just did is not kept and the viewport camera gets back to its previous position.
It is obvious that this pop should not occur, it is very annoying to manipulate the scene content.
Can you please have a look at it?
You are correct in that this pop should not occur. I just tested scrolling in and out with my scroll wheel. Then I panned to the right and left with the Alt + middle mouse wheel. I do not see the popping that you describe.
If you would link me a copy of your DxDiag I will continue to investigate this issue in the meantime.
So, after consulting with another team member we were able to figure out a reproduction for this. It looks as if this only happens some of the time. It also only happens if you zoom really far in and then very quickly move the left or right. The movement is only slight as well.
I have entered a bug for this and this issue has been reported to our development team. The ticket number is UE-22622.
Thanks , I’m glad you figured out how to reproduce it.
I am surprised you say it is slight though because on some maps of ours it behave as if the camera is brutally put back to the position it had right before the zoom.
We managed to turnaround the pop by doing a pan (middle mouse button) right after the zoom but it is not very natural…
Sure. I say slight because I am trying to move quickly and I usually only get a certain distance before jerking back. It is definitely an issue though. Hopefully we will see a response quickly.
This issue is currently being investigated by our developers, but there is not yet a timeline for when a fix will be released. I will provide updates on this issue as they become available.
