4.8 procuderal foliage ignore landscape layer

So it seems like the procedural foliage in 4.8 struggles to apply to the correct landscape layer. Is this a known thing?

I am currently in the process of testing what you are reporting here. I will return with any information that I find about this issue, but in the meantime, take a look at the Procedural Foliage Spawner tutorial one of the community members posted to the Forums. You could possibly be overlooking one of the settings, or just setting an incorrect value somewhere.

Everytime I try to use the grass system in material it crashes when it is baking the grass layers. The strange thing is that it worked in the same scene before… Here is my landscape layer for the tree; http://puu.sh/hLQKV/7eb5bb682d.jpg

It is going over grass dirt and rock layer. As I am speaking it crashed when I went to go into the foliage tab… Aaand once more. So then I went ahead and made a new map added another landscape painted in the three layers on an area. Threw in the procedural volume and hit re-simulate, yet another crash. This is the first time it has been this unstable. I’ve sent in all the reports.

Tried even more, crash all the time. Oddly the old map where its ignoring the layers is the only thing that is working now.

We have been attempting to reproduce the behavior you are experiencing and have not been successful. If you are crashing please include the Machine ID when the Crash Reporter appears and make sure that you send the crash report information as well.

Also, If possible, can you upload the project here or to me via the Private Message System on the forums for us to test?

Tried making a brand new Spawner and put it in a new map… Same thing.

The map that starts when I open the project is the only map that works. The rest of them crashes.

I should specify that both the foliage spawner and the landscape grass crashes on me.

Hi -

I was able to determine the root cause of the crash you are experiencing. Currently the grass output node is not playing nicely with Material Tessellation. If you open your material and turn tessellation off, you will be able to open the map you sent me. I have reported the issue as UE-15619. We will keep you informed as we investigate a solution.

Hi , thanks for your help tracking this down. I just fixed the crash generating grassmaps for tessellated landscape materials for 4.8 preview 3 and the release version.

so how can I do this but by masking it with an alpha from world machine? so it does not go everywhere.

Could you please post this question as a new AnswerHub post as the issue here was resolved, and your question is similar but is more of a request on how to do something, versus reporting a bug.
