Why do none of my FX series CPU's cooperate with UDK4?

I happen to own many different types of AMD CPU’s.

A short list of what I have tested would include:

-Sempron 145,

-A6 5400K APU,

-FX-4100,

-FX-8350,

-FX-9590.

Not a single FX series chip operates well. Infact, the better my AMD chip gets the worse UDK4 operates, and it is NOT my temperatures. Here are some details as to what is happening with UDK with each of these chips in my computer, I tested all these chips in a separate computer and received the same exact results:

*The map I’m happening to load when referred to below is the sci-fi Hallway available in the marketplace

-FX-9590 - Entirely freezes my computer after running for about 10 minutes or light intensive use, whenever I load a detailed map freezes at 50-56%

-FX-8350 - Entirely freezes my computer after about 25 minutes of use. Freezes at 50-56%% when loading maps.

-FX-4100 - Wont Freeze computer, pauses at 50-56% when loading maps for a YEAR, then eventually loads map

-A6 5400K - Wont freeze computer at all, infact I accidentally left my computer on all night with udk 4 and it ran fine
in the morning.

-Sempron 145 - I don’t even see shaders loading at the start of a new project or when loading some meshes, I mean, WTF? (Edit: Another kind mod told me I shouldnt expect to see shaders with a single core cpu, apparently)

I don’t know what to say. I know for a fact the computers work great accept for when I’m in UDK, I have tested them thoroughly in other programs and stress tests.

I think it’s also worth mentioning these problems were all generally decreased across the board when running 4.6.1

Thanks in advance for any useful info

NOTE - The only reason why I have 4 gigs of ram in my dxdiag_main shot is because I was testing each RAM stick individually, the problem occurs even with 32gigs of RAM

Hey Axiom,

I apologize for the delay in response here. Our compatibility lab is in the process of an overhaul and we don’t have our AMD CPU rigs hooked up yet.

In the meantime, can I get you to send the dxdiag reports for each PC? (The “Save All Information” button in dxdiag will let you save out a txt file) You can attach those to your reply to this question, no need to edit the original post.

I’d also like to know what project you’re trying to use. Is it a custom project, one of our sample projects, or a modified sample project? It sounds like you made a post on the forums, can I get that link?

It sounds like you were on UE4 version 4.5(you indicated updating to 4.6.1), is that correct? Have you tried moving to 4.7.6 or one of the 4.8 previews yet?

-.

EDIT: I’m also wondering if there’s any specific piece of software (antivirus, some strange USB display adapter with drivers, etc) that you’re running across all these PC’s. I ask because I run an FX 8350 at home with no issues.

I am using an FX-8350 (@4.4GHz) and I have not had any of these freezing problems you describe. That said, I have not spend much time in any complicated maps. The most complicated is probably the Landscape Mountains content example for about ten minutes. Other than that I have just been working on blueprints/basic gameplay elements in a small map. Hopefully I do not encounter any of these problems when I begin working on bigger, denser levels.

Hi Axiom,

I’m marking this as answered due to inactivity. Please respond to re-open.
