Ue 4.7 failed to import .fbx failed to create asset or it crashes when i try to import character with animations

Trying to import a character with animations into engine. It is a Genesis character with motions added in Motion Builder. The asset works fine in .fbx review. When i try to import into engine it either crashes or gives me the error failed to import .fbx failed to create asset .

Hi Xeogrippa -

We have had issues in the past and are still investigating issues with models generated in DAZ Studio / Poser. For the crash if you can upload the Machine ID which appears in the Crash Reporter and of course please submit the crash, because it should not be crashing. I would spend some time and look at the vertex and vertex normals of the model before trying to animate it.

Thank You

Eric Ketchum

The character with out animations loads just fine into ue4, When i add animations in MB and save as one file the asset works fine when in .fbx preview but when i try to import the .fbx into ue4 I get an error the first time and i crashes the second try.

sorry how do i upload the id to you wont fit in comments

ok it is not the daz character i tried the same process with the herottp and i still get error.

something is changing when the character leaves Motion Builder. I can take a fresh character .fbx and import it fine into ue4. If i open then save the .fbx in MB even with out animations i get an error in ue4

Hi Xenogrippa -

The Machine ID is posted in the Crash Reporter as a string of Letters and Numbers, you just need to copy that number and post it here as text. It would also be helpful for us to have a copy of the asset before and after it goes through MotionBuilder, so an FBX of the original and an FBX after MotionBuilder. Assuming that they are below 5MB together in size, you can zip them together and attach them to the comment section here.

I am afraid the files are bigger than 5mb

Hi Xenogrippa -

Is there anyway you can upload the files to a Dropbox or Google Drive and share with me via a link here, or if you would like to keep it private via the message system in the forums? We are very interested in discovering the cause of this crash.

Thank You for all your help and patience -
