Issue importing my FBX from 3Ds Max 2011 to UE4

I watched “Intro for Artists and Environment Artists” and I saw how they took a mesh from Zbrush to 3ds max and export it to UE4 as and FBX file from 3ds max 2013. At least that was the current version of the FBX file. I have 3ds max 2011 and I went to this site from Autodesk: Autodesk | 3D Design, Engineering & Construction Software to update my 2011 version to something newer but they don’t have my copy of 3ds max. The have the updated files for 2008, 2010 and 2012 but I have 2011 so they don’t work and I can’t import any geometry into UE4. Does anybody have any advice?

yes I have

  1. save your object to obj
  2. load it via blender “free”
  3. save it as fbx 2013
  4. import it to UE4

and it should be imported right.

also you could try trailer version for max 2014 and start work with it around to save your time.

Best of luck

I am using 3ds max 2011 and the FBX export to get objects and different meshes into Unreal Engine 4.
I was able to upgrade from FBX 2011 to FBX 2013. I don’t have any error when importing into Unreal Engine 4 but I am not uploading the materials.
When I try and export from 3ds max 2011 using FBX 2013 I have a lot of properties I can attach to these files. If you say it should upload just fine what options should I have enabled for it to work if any?

There is a free converter available at Autodesk website:

I use that one since Blender isn’t always OK either (or even an option sometimes)
