Beginner Character & Weapon modeling and animation doubts

Hey, I’m entering in the world of modeling and animation but I already have some doubts.
I made a character and the animation, and create a weapon and animation, how do I put the gun on the character to be in the right place and at hand? I need to make an animation for each weapon? I’ve seen some models of weapons with arms, what’s the point?

Thanks, one more question. Some guys do weapon and then the weapon with arms I guess some is for 3rd person and 1st person but what is the point?

The point is that you can increase the polycount for the weapon+arms model because you know you aren’t rendering the player model as well. So you have different resolutions for weapon in the world vs weapon in first person. Its pretty common practice in FPS games.
