How to install UE4 on USB-stick?

Hello,

I’m new with the Unreal Engine 4 and I want to experiment with it. I downloaded the installer and I want to install it on an USB-stick, but I can’t install it on the stick, because it says: “Installation directory must be on a local hard drive”

Can you install it on an USB-stick and how?

Hi Finntastic,

UE4 is not a portable program. It needs to be installed locally so it can work properly with your operating system.

However you can install it locally but move your project to a USB/External drive and transport them that way.

Cheers,

TJ

Okay thanks.

Ok thanks but is it possible to install it in virtual box and then move the Virtual Local Hard drive between different Computers. So that I have some kind of a portable version, if there is a portable virtual box?

Hi ,

Most likely the answer is no due to VBox’s poor GL support. If they can get at least GL 3.2 in VBox then this becomes a tentative “yes”.
